The Adamawa State House of Assembly has adopted the report of its Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, aimed at prohibiting all forms of discrimination against persons with disabilities.
The report pertains to a bill seeking to repeal the Adamawa State Disability Rights Commission Law No. 14 of 2016 and re-enact the Adamawa State Persons with Disability Law Commission which is sponsored by the Member representing Mayo Belwa Constituency, Hon Musa Mahmud Kallamu.
This legislation is designed to promote the full integration of persons with disabilities into society, eliminate discrimination against them, and address other related matters.
The move reflects the Assembly’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their equal participation in society.
The adoption of the report followed its presentation, deliberation, and approval during Wednesday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley.
The report was initially presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs and Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa), before receiving unanimous support from the lawmakers.
Following its adoption, the Speaker directed the Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee to schedule the bill for a third reading on the next legislative day.
