The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging youths across all the constituencies to distance themselves from the planned nationwide protests.
The House also urged the youths to remain calm and law-abiding.
The House resolution was passed following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Chairman of the House Committee on Security and Member representing Song Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Kefas during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The resolution also highlighted the need for government to engage youth in community development, empowerment, education, and employment opportunities.
Mr Kefas acknowledged that while protests is a constitutional right, there are concerns that the demonstrations could be hijacked by hoodlums, potentially leading to unrest, chaos, and property destruction.
He emphasized that although protests are crucial for expressing grievances and advocating for change, it is vital to address issues through dialogue and peaceful means.
The Lawmaker prayed to the government to implement programs tailored to the specific needs of young people and facilitate open discussions with them using neutral mediators.
He also recommended that town hall meetings be organized to allow communities to voice their concerns, and that traditional leaders and elders be utilized for mediation and legal arbitration to resolve disputes.
Following contributions from various lawmakers, Kefas’s motion was moved for adoption and seconded by Muhammed Babangida Njidda, Member representing Nasarawo Binyeri Constituency.
Speaker Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the session, directed the House clerk to communicate the resolutions to the Executive Governor for further action.
