The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill aimed at protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their full integration into society.
The bill, titled A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Adamawa State Disability Rights Commission Law No. 14 of 2016 and Re-enact the Adamawa State Persons with Disability Law Commission, seeks to prohibit all forms of discrimination against persons with disabilities and address other related matters.
The legislation was sponsored by Hon. Musa Mahmud Kallamu, the member representing Mayo Belwa Constituency.
The third reading and passage of the bill followed a motion to that effect by the Majority leader and member representing Demsa Constituency, Hon Kate Raymond Mamuno during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker Bathiya Wesley.
Following its passage, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill for transmission to the Governor for assent.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Abubakar Muhammad Adamu reports that with its passage, the bill is expected to strengthen legal protections for persons with disabilities in Adamawa State and promote their inclusion in all sectors of society.
