Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated commitment to Partner Federal Roads Safety Corps and other relevant stakeholders to reduce rate of traffic crashes in the state.
He stated this during a Flagg off ceremony of “Operation Zero Telerance” ember month campaign with the theme” Speed thrills but kills, Drive responsibly and avoid overloading” orgnised by Federal road safety corps Adamawa State command held at Adamawa Sunshine main Terminus Yola.
Represented by State Commissioner Ministry of Transport Development Musa Mahmud Kallamu, Governor Fintiri stressed the need for the FRSC management and relevant stakeholders to partner annually to bring down the rate of road crashes through robust Public enlightenment and enforcement.
The Governor noted that according to national bureau of statistics one thousand eight hundred and thirty four people died out of three thousand three hundred and forty five Road Accident that occured in the country between January to March twenty twenty three while over one point three million people died worldwide.
He said about one hundred and twenty three people were killed and three hundred and twelve got injured annually most frequent along Numan-Yola roads and Girei-Song roads as a result of over speeding and over loading by commercial drivers.
He urged People to be cautioned and avoid acts capable of causing accident to safe lives of citizens.
Earlier in a remark, the Adamawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps FRSC, Yelwa D Dio said the awareness by the command will focus on Overloading Violations, Speed limit violations, Tyre violations, light sign violations and Wipers among others.
While appreciating State Government for it’s support to the FRSC solicited for more to enable them carry out their duties deligently.
On his part, state Commissioner for Works, Adamu Atiku expressed determination of the Fintiri administration in proving roads insfrasturacture for smooth plighing of roads by Motorist.
