The Adamawa State House of Assembly on Monday announced the resignation of the member representing Girei Constituency, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, read the resignation letter on the floor of the House during plenary, formally informing members of the development.
In the letter, the Girei lawmaker cited internal crises within the party at the national level as reasons for his decision to withdraw his membership from the PDP.
Meanwhile, the House also passed a Bill for a Law to provide for Adamawa State Social Protection.
The passage of the bill followed the third Reading of the Bill which was moved by the Majority Leader and member representing Demsa Constituency, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, and seconded by the Minority Leader and member representing Yola North Constituency, Hon. Sulaiman Umar Alkali.
After deliberation, the Bill was read for the third time and subsequently passed by the House.
Following its passage, the Speaker Bathiya Wesley who Presided over the session directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the Bill for onward transmission to the Governor for assent.
The passage of the Social Protection Bill is expected to strengthen institutional frameworks aimed at supporting vulnerable groups across Adamawa State.
