Journalists have been urged to develop interest in Environmental reporting to safegurding and sustain the nature.
Mr, Aliu Akoshile,Executive Director Climate Africa Media Initiative Centre (CAMIC), who is also the Editor-in-Chief of NatureNews gave the charge during a workshop organised for Journalists on Environmental reporting by Dangote group and Climate Africa Media Initiative Center CAMIC held at Vortex Hotels and Resort, Yola.
He noted that every life depends on environment hence the need to protect it for the future generations.
Mr Aliu who acknowledged the role of journalists to protecting and preserving healthy environment appealed to them to put in to practice the knowledge acquired during the training.
In a presentation, a Senior Lecturer with Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Dr.John Ngamsa lamented that about 90 percent of the air people take in is no longer pure hence the need for people to brace up in promoting healthy environment.
Dr Ngamsa admonished Journalists to focus more attention on environmental reporting to address challenges associated with environment.
Another resource person, Dr. Shadrach Idi, Lecturer from Taraba State University who lectured on Investigative Environmental Journalim IEJ described it as challenging as well as dangerous urging journalists to be cautioned.
He stressed the need for people to safeguard and sustain the environment for the well being of the future generations.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Media Manager Relations, North of Dangote, Jibrin Abubakar explained that the aim of the workshop is to equip Journalists with necessary skills on environmental reporting to protect the nature for feature generations.
