A message of peace was the first promise Dr. Titus Obadiah delivered after taking the oath of office as Chairman of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area. Closely following that was a call for unity, which he described as a major priority of his administration.
Those words quickly came alive as residents from different religious, political and ethnic backgrounds turned out in large numbers to celebrate his inauguration at a grand reception organised in his honour.
The atmosphere at the Mayo Belwa Local Government Secretariat was filled with excitement as supporters, traditional leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women groups gathered in what many described as one of the largest public receptions ever witnessed in the history of the local government.
Dr. Obadiah reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance and development, assuring residents that his administration would be open to every community without discrimination.
One of the defining moments of the event was the rare display of political unity, with leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) putting aside party differences to celebrate the new chairman.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the member representing Mayo Belwa Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Musa Mahmud Kallamu, and the Adamawa State Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, Hammanjumba Gatugel.
They congratulated Dr. Obadiah on his inauguration and urged the people of Mayo Belwa to give him the support and cooperation needed to deliver on his mandate.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mayo Belwa, Hon. Abubakar Hammanjamdi, described Dr. Obadiah as a leader with the capacity to unite the people, noting that Mayo Belwa was fortunate to have him at this critical time.
The celebration did not end at the council secretariat.
The convoy moved to Dr. Obadiah’s hometown of Ndikong, where another sea of jubilant supporters welcomed him with songs, cheers and cultural displays. Hundreds lined the streets to receive the new chairman, describing him in the local expression as “Kowa na so” — meaning “the man loved by everyone.”
For many residents, the massive turnout and cross-party solidarity reflected growing hope that the new administration will strengthen peace, foster unity and accelerate development across every community in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area.
