The Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved a virement of over twenty three billion naira billion following a request from the State Executive Council to reallocate funds within the twenty twenty four budget.
The approval was granted on Wednesday, after the letter was read by the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley who presided over the session.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a letter dated eighteenthh September twenty-twenty four, forwarded the virement request to the House, citing the need to cover expenses related to minimum wage increases and other pressing financial commitments.
The virement, which was approved at the State Executive Council’s fifteenth meeting, involves reallocating funds from both recurrent and capital programs, staying within the over two hundred and fifteen billion naira budget approved earlier this year.
The Speaker noted the importance of the virement to ensure prompt payment of the new minimum wage and other obligations, and the House unanimously approved the governor’s request.
Motion to that effect was moved by the Majority Leader of the House and Member representing Demsa Constituency, Kate Raymond Mamuno.
Considering the importance of the letter, the Member representing Mayo Belwa Constituency, Musa Mahmud Kallamu stressed the significance of the virement in covering the minimum wage increase.
The House has also received twenty twenty five Medium Term Expenditure franework and Economic and Fiscal Update forwaded by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for consideration.
After the reading the letter, the Speaker Bathiya Wesley committed it to the House committee on Finance, Budget and appropriation for scrutiny.
