The Ad-hoc Committee on Transport Agency, Constituted by the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly has on Thursday held a public hearing on a proposed bill aimed at establishing a Road Transport, Traffic, and Motor Vehicle Administration Agency in Adamawa.
The public hearing, which brought together key stakeholders in the state’s transport sector, took place at the committee room of the State Assembly Complex in Yola.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee and Member representing Mayo Belwa Constituency, Musa Mahmud Kallamu, encouraged participants to provide valuable input that would contribute to the successful passage of the bill.
He emphasized that the bill, if enacted, would play a crucial role in harmonizing the transport sector within the state, thereby enhancing its operations.
Kallamu further noted that the bill would not only improve the state’s revenue generation but also ensure the security of lives and properties of the citizens.
He called on the attendees to offer constructive advice and criticism to help refine and perfect the proposed legislation.
Speaking at the event, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Transport Development, Mrs. Wunfe Brina Anthony, expressed her appreciation to the committee for organizing the public hearing.
She underscored the significance of the bill, stating that its importance could not be overstated.
Mrs. Anthony also commended the Adamawa lawmakers for their continued support to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which she attributed it to the ongoing transformation in the state.
She urged the lawmakers to maintain their support to facilitate further developmental projects in Adamawa.
Also in attendance at the public hearing were other Members of the Committee, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Transport Development and Member representing Maiha Constituency, Jingi Ahmed Belel, the Majority Leader of the House and Member representing Demsa Constituency, Kate Raymond Mamuno, and the Member representing Leko Koma Constituency, Bulus Geofrey.
The public hearing attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including transport operators, vehicle owners, and representatives of various transport-related unions across the state.
