The Adamawa State Police Command has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that two female students from the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, were killed in a hotel.
The police have advised the public to ignore these claims, labeling them as fake news and misleading information.
Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, through a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, clarified that the rumors are entirely false.
He noted that the command has deployed operational assets around hotels for surveillance to prevent criminal activities and ensure a safe environment in the state.
“These deployments will assist in monitoring hotels, preventing criminal behavior, coordinating swift responses to distress calls, and clamping down on threats to lives and property,” said the statement.
The Commissioner has also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations to strategically deploy officers and assets around hotels in the state to maintain public safety.
Refuting the social media rumors about the beheading of the two students, CP Morris urged the public to disregard such false information, which he described as the work of mischief-makers aiming to disrupt public peace and create unnecessary tension.
He emphasized that the presence of police and other security agents around hotels is a deliberate effort to maintain a secure environment, reiterating that no such incident occurred anywhere in the state.
The Commissioner also warned social media bloggers to avoid spreading information that could threaten public peace and encouraged them to adhere to the laws in place.
